AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Kinder Morgan announces it has suspended work on the Palmetto Pipeline project after Georgia lawmakers pass a bill involving eminent domain and restrictions placed on petroleum pipelines.

The company posted the following announcement on the website

"Kinder Morgan has suspended further work on the Palmetto Pipeline project, following the unfavorable action by the Georgia legislature regarding eminent domain authority and permitting restrictions for petroleum pipelines. While this legislative action was disappointing, we remain committed to providing customized transportation solutions to our customers."

Kinder Morgan has not said how long the suspension of the project will last. John Berret, a landowner along the project's proposed path, says while he's happy the pipeline has been suspended, he'll keep an eye out for it in the future. Berret says, "We'll be constantly looking for it. We need to go ahead and put the nail in the coffin and get legislation through to protect the land owners in our area."
