UPDATE| Student who brought gun to Thomson High School posts bond

MCDUFFIE CO., Ga. (WRDW) -- According to the McDuffie County Sheriff's Office, Casey Williams is now out of jail after posting a $15,000 bond. the Sheriff's Office says he posted bond on Sunday.

Williams is accused of bringing a gun onto Thomson High School property. He is charged with one count of possession of a firearm on school property, according to the GBI.

MCDUFFIE CO., Ga. (WRDW) -- 18 year-old Casey Williams, a student at Thomson High School, is charged with one count of possession of a firearm on school property, according to the GBI, after bringing a hand gun to school. The GBI says Williams had a conflict with someone Thursday off school property. At this time, it is unclear if Williams brought the hand gun to school to retaliate against that person, or to protect himself from that person, according to the GBI.

MCDUFFIE CO., Ga. (WRDW) -- According to the McDuffie County Schools Superintendent Mychele Rhodes, the student who brought a gun to Thomson High School is 18 year-old Casey Williams. Rhodes says GBI was called tothe school after a report of a student with a gun. She says the student was arrested and booked, and will also face discipline by the school system.

MCDUFFIE Co., Ga. (WRDW) -- The McDuffie County Superintendent's office confirms a gun was found on a Thomson High student Friday morning. We're told metal detectors alerted them to the weapon.

School officials tell News 12 they immediately confiscated the gun and contacted law enforcement. No one was hurt.

THS says they will continue to use these metal detectors to ensure students stay safe. The McDuffie County School System says they are working to make sure there is normal school operation for the rest of the day.
