Crews investigate plane crash near Savannah/HHI International Airport

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - A small, general aviation Piper aircraft crashed on the Crosswinds Golf Course, west of Savannah/HHI International airport, at about 9 p.m.

According to emergency officials, two people were extricated from the plane. Both were airlifted to the hospital.

The plane was coming from Jacksonville, it was with BlueJay Aviation. It crashed in the tree line of the golf course just before the runway.

One runway is now open. Crews continue to check for debris.

Savannah Fire, Airport Police and Fire are currently on scene, according to an official. The 165th Airlift Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard responded with three firetrucks and eight personnel.
