AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- An 8-year-old boy tells deputies he ran away from his home after he saw his mother being beaten by her boyfriend. That's according to a report from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
According to the report, on Feb. 10 deputies were sent to the 3600 block of Greiner Dr. in Augusta in reference to a domestic violence incident. Deputies say they found the victim with injuries on her face, walking at the intersection of Ashley Dr. and Boone St.
The woman told deputies her boyfriend, Damian Williams, returned home from a night club intoxicated, and while he was looking for something, he became very upset. She stated he asked where the item was, but she was not sure what he was looking for. The report says that's when Williams dragged the woman out of bed while punching her in the face and head.
According to the report, the woman says she ran into the bathroom inside the bedroom, but he followed her in and attacked her. She says when he was done, he told her to leave. The victim says when she tried to leave, he wouldn't let her because he noticed the 8-year-old boy was missing.
Deputies say the boy ran from a house on Ashley Dr. and up to a patrol car asking for his parents. The boy told deputies he could hear his mother and her boyfriend arguing. When he looked out of his bedroom, he told deputies he saw the man beating his mother. The boy says he got scared and ran away through the bedroom window.
In the report, deputies say the bathroom door frame was split, and the bedroom and bathroom were in shambles. Deputies say Williams claimed the home was broken into and damaged but no items were stolen. Williams was arrested and charged with cruelty to children in the 3rd degree and battery.
