BEECH ISLAND, SC (WRDW) - South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a two-car crash that has killed one person.
Officials say the head on collision on Wilson Rd and Highway 278, killed Patrick S. Rolland, 44, from Grovetown. Officials say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to witness', at noon today Rolland was traveling east on 278 toward New Ellenton, SC when he was hit by a jeep traveling westbound.
Officials say the five occupants of the jeep, the driver Richard Moody, 45, Tiffany Gibson,38, Ella Gibson,3, Alva Moody,2, and Hannah Moody 20, were taken to GRU. Their conditions are not known at this time.
Investigators say it appears the jeep was attempting to pass another vehicle when the crash happened.
Rolland was the only occupant in his vehicle.
South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office are still investigating the incident.
