USC Aiken is picked 4th, Augusta 10th in PBC preseason baseball poll

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team has been picked to finish 10th in the 2019 Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches poll that was released on Friday morning from the league office in Augusta, Ga.

The Columbus State Cougars have been selected as the preseason favorite for 2019 in a poll of Peach Belt Conference head coaches released on Friday. The Cougars received eight of a possible 10 first-place votes for 95 points, coming in ahead of Georgia College in second with 87 and UNC Pembroke in third with 84. USC Aiken was fourth in the voting with North Georgia fifth, Flagler sixth and a tie between Lander and Young Harris in seventh. Francis Marion, Augusta and Georgia Southwestern rounded out the voting.

"We have several players that have Peach Belt Conference experience and we look forward to them having a productive year for the Jags. We also have freshman that include some young players that will have an impact right away," head coach Chris Howell said.

Howell, now in his third year at the helm of the program, returns 16 players from 2018 and signed 11 new position players and six new pitchers. The 2019 squad kick the season off with a 10-game homestand at Jaguar Field. AU hosts Mars Hill Feb. 1-2 for the season-opening weekend. The first pitch will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, with Saturday featuring a non-conference doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m.
