Aiken, SC--Roberto Hernandez will go down as probably the greatest athlete to suit up for USC Aiken. Thursday it was announced he'd be inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.
As a Pacer, Hernandez posted a 10-2 record with 97 strikeouts, but also hit 19 homers in leading them to the NAIA World Series in 1986
In 1986, he was drafted in the first round by the California Angels, who turned him into a big league reliever.
He was part of the Major League All-Star team twice and played 17 seasons with a couple of different teams. When he retired, he was in the top 15 in all-time saves.
USC Aiken named their baseball stadium after Hernandez, who made a sizable donation to build their current facility.
