GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The halfway point of the high school wrestling season, means competition is heating up on the mats.
Today the annual Columbia County Duals got underway at Grovetown with plenty of state title contenders on hand.
Evans, Grovetown, Greenbrier, Lakeside and Harlem all vying for the big trophy.
But this meet isn't just for county bragging rights. It's also a good way for coaches to see how their guys stack up against competition they'll face later on this season in the regional tournament.
"It allows us to see, who they have, who we can wrestle. Later on those implications how we might match up on January 12th" Evans coach, Rich Davis said.
Whichever team wins this meet, gets to bring the trophy back to their place until next year's tournament.
