AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team picked up a 6-4 win against the Flagler Saints Sunday afternoon.

USC Aiken is now 27-20 on the season and 16-11 in league play. The Saints sit at 28-21 overall and 19-11 in the PBC.

Garvin Alston Jr. got the starting nod on the mound, throwing 4.1 innings and striking out three.

Neither team was able to get a foothold until the third inning when the Pacers picked up five of their six runs. Scott Huntley started things off with a single to left and was quickly pushed over to second on a sacrifice bunt from Sean McQuillan. He then hustled over to third on a wild pitch and was brought home on a ground out by Jackson Hannon.

Chandler Rogers came up and smacked a single to left then immediately moved to second on a single from Luke Leisenring. Conner Durden followed up with a single that brought Rogers home and pushed Leisenring all the way to third. Both were moved up a base on a single from Trey Polewski. Phil Watcher then managed to gain first on an error that brought Durden home and moved Polewski around to third. Joey Smithers floated a single out to right that brought Polewski the rest of the way to make it 5-0 for USC Aiken.

After Flagler managed to pick up three runs across the next two innings, the Pacers tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth for insurance. With one out, Huntley slammed a double to right field and moved to third on a ground out. Hannon stepped up and shot a single to center than brought Huntley home to make it 6-3.

For the game, Hannon, Huntley, Rogers and Smithers all grabbed two hits, while Durden, Leisenring and Polewski had one hit apiece.

On the mound, Austin Sandifer threw 2.2 innings and picked up the win. Jon Yarbrough pitched the last two innings and struck out three.
