Augusta, Ga--It's been a heck of a week for mixed martial arts fighting in the river region. We had the thriller at the miller this past weekend and come saturday, they'll set up the octegon for the King of the Cage Rumble on the River at SRP Park
12 fights are scheduled to be on the card featuring a few pro bouts and then some amateur matches as well. Several local guys and gals will also be part of the event. One of them, Jason Fagiler. He's been doing this for quite some time and knows first hand there's a huge jump up when you go against a pro.
"When you do make it to that level, the competition changes tremendously. You have to take every single fight serious and train for them. You can't go in there, not at 100% and expect to come out okay. You have to go out and prepare for it." said Jason Fagiler
Malcolm Wellmaker is a relative newcomer to the sport. He actually took it up just to get in better shape and never thought he'd like getting hit or hitting someone. But here he is, now competing as an amateur. It's something that just clicked with Wellmaker
"When I started competing, I started, you know, having these rounds with my coach and my teammates, Joel (Fagiler) and everybody and I never thought I'd be able to do it. I never thought I'd be able to punch someone in the face, let alone kick them. I've impressed myself and astonished by what I've accomplished and it's just a drive that wants you to keep going and to keep going" said Malcolm Wellmaker
If you recognize the name Joel Fagiler that's because he's just graduating from cross creek. He won a state wrestling title a year ago. He's keeping his amateur status in the sport so it doesn't affect his college career. First bout Saturday is 7pm
