WILLISTON, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- For the past few years, we've gotten used to the name KeShawn Toney from Williston-Elko. Toney's been a game changer for the Blue Devil program. He's also the latest proof a small town kid from Williston can do big things when he sets his mind to it.
KeShawn Toney is a small town kid who will soon get to live out his college football dreams Next year, the Williston-Elko star will suit up for the Gamecocks.
"It was a school that I always wanted to go to when I was younger. When I finally got the opportunity, I just knew that it wasn't really a question," KeShawn Toney said.
It's an opportunity, no one in his family has had before. Toney will be the first to go to college.
"Sometimes I sit and think, I'm really about to go do this. I'm really the first in my family to go do something this big. It's really crazy," Toney said.
Toney breaks the mold for kids in the area - For a lot of them, they never get the chance to go to college.
"Just a small town kid from Williston. It shows that I can be able to show all the other kids that you can do it. Set your limits high. Don't ever let nobody tell you that you can't do anything. Anything you put your mind to, you got it," Toney said.
Now he'll become a Gamecock, like Alshon Jefferies and Marcus Lattimore, former players he idolized
"I love South Carolina during that era. Like when they played in the SEC Championship. That's really how that got," Tony said.
Toney will actually graduate in December and then enroll early at South Carolina in the spring. He has hopes of earning playing time at tight end as a freshman with Will Muschamp.
