EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Early in the basketball season, every one in the River Region was talking about Evans.
They opened on a 17-game win streak, and looked like they had no plans on slowing down. But a few misteps late in the year, led to a second place finish in region play.
Now the Knights have gotten back on track, and are set for the second round of states.
These guys have already accomplished a lot and still feel they have more to prove. This is the first Evans team to get past the opening round since 2010.
While, this may be unfamiliar territory, but the Knights know they belong here.
"It means a lot. Especially how we came out the second part of region. We didn't play so good. But, it builds confidence," senior guard, Cam Cabarrus said.
"I think kids got refocused, ready to play again. They knew what was out there, wiht the state championship out there. We're as good as any team around, I think," Evans coach, Kevin Kenny said. "I think they bought into that, in that they're capable of winning every night they step out on the floor."
Evans will face Tucker in the Sweet 16 this Thursday.
