DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team snapped a three-game win streak on Wednesday afternoon in a 65-62 Peach Belt Conference loss against the North Georgia Nighthawks in the UNG Convocation Center.

Augusta junior Rafael Monteiro scored 15 in the first half and produced 19 for the game, while adding six rebounds. Senior Deane Williams delivered 13 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the young season, while senior shooter Tyvez Monroe tallied 12 points.

Monteiro's early 15 points helped AU own a 38-32 lead at halftime. UNG held a one-basket lead at the start of the game, but Augusta recovered and had its largest lead of 11 with 1:11 left in the first half.

Midway through the second half the Jaguars still held the lead, but the Nighthawks were notching closer and stole the score on a one-handed jumper in the paint with 10:50 to go. The game was tied at 53-all with just over 5:00 to play, until UNG hit a three pointer and stole the ball on the next AU possession that led to a fast-break dunk and five-point swing. Senior Tyvez Monroe responded for the Jaguars and drilled two three pointers to keep Augusta down by one, but UNG outscored the Jags 4-2 in the last two minutes to hold on for a 65-62 win.
