WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – The Augusta University men’s golf team returned to competition Feb. 25-26 for the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club. The Jaguars finished 12th (+50) after two days and 54 holes of play.
Augusta competed in Pepperdine’s event for the fourth straight season to begin the spring portion of its schedule. The 2019 field included Augusta, California, George Washington, Loyola Marymount, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, San Jose State, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, and Washington.
No. 7 USC’s Justin Suh birdied on 18 in round three to give the Trojans the win and secure the individual title. USC (-4) won the tournament over No. 16 California (-3). No. 43 UCLA placed third (+1), No. 12 Pepperdine (+5) took fourth, and No. 22 Tennessee grabbed fifth.
Teams played 36 holes on Monday to open the tournament and 18 on Tuesday. Augusta sent juniors Gustav Andersson and McCullough Pickens, freshmen Alex van Wyk and Viktor Lindgren, and senior Adam Walden. The Jags shot 22-over-par in round one 21-over in round two. The team shaved 14 strokes with a 7-over 295 in the final outing
