Evans, Ga--For a lot of high school football players, they know where they want to play at the next level. Up until last year, they had to wait until February before signing. Now, there's an early period and today marked the opening of it with a few local kids taking care of business.

Evans' Derrick Canteen is headed to Statesboro to join Georgia Southern. Canteen is a cornerback and made the decision pretty early to join Eagle nation and be part of Chad Lunsford's program.

"Just watching the bowl game just seeing how they excited they were before the game, after the game, during the game, I really feel like they're going down the right path. From day one I fell in love with GSU. I had a couple of colleges that were on my mind but from the top to the bottom, I love Georgia Southern." said Derrick Canteen

We also had a pair of other standouts sign with GSU. North Augusta's Caree Collier, seen here scoring a touchdown, will play "D" for the eagles. And Jaiden Jenkins of Jefferson County is headed that was as well. Jenkins was among the elite quarterbacks around this past season and led the warriors deep into the playoffs.

Williston Elko continues to produce top Division One football products and KeShawn Toney is the latest. Ever since toney was young, he knew he wanted to be a South Carolina Gamecock. Once that offer came in, it was a given he'd be Columbia bound. Toney will also get a jump on things and be an early enrollee which will help in the long run.

"I just know I'm going to have to work extremely hard and it's better for me because I get to learn the playbook faster, workout, eat a healthy nutritional diet, but I should be ready for it." said KeShawn Tony

Part of the reason he was a Gmecock fan, his dad was a Clemson fan. Toney will likely be a tight end for Will Muschamp and is anxious to get going after a stellar career in the classroom and on the field for the Blue Devils.
