AUGUSTA, GA (WRDW/WAGT) -- Tabitha Moss, the woman charged with lying to investigators about whether or not she had or didn't have a child, was granted bond Tuesday.
Investigators claim in court Tabitha Moss got rid of the child because her boyfriend may have not been the father. They say Moss' boyfriend requested a DNA test upon the birth of the child, which they believe was Moss' motive to dispose of the baby.
Bond was set today for Moss at $25,000. This happened after she told police she had a miscarriage only to later change her story.
Today in court we learned about an interesting text message exchange between Moss and her roommate, Zequeena Miller. According to the investigator, Miller texted Moss saying she hoped she didn't harm the baby, to which Moss replied saying Miller was "going to be mad."
According to investigators, Moss has told several stories about where her baby is. She told doctors at University Hospital that she was never pregnant. But when she first spoke to investigators, she told them she got pregnant in January and miscarried the baby into a bag. She also told them she miscarried the baby into a shoebox and had Miller bury it in the backyard. Another story was that she flushed the baby down the toilet back in January.
"We learned more information that maybe the first story Ms. Moss gave was not truthful,” said Investigator Ken Rogers.
According to Rogers, Moss told her boyfriend she was riding in a truck with Miller when they got rear-ended, causing her to bleed and miscarry the baby. But, no damage was found to her car.
Today in court, Investigator Rogers said Moss made some fairly telling internet searches not too long before she delivered the baby. After a search of her internet history, investigators discovered Moss had been searching online for ways to cause a miscarriage. She also told police that she had sought an abortion, but was told she was too far along in her pregnancy to get one.
Moss has sent police and their K-9's to several areas where she says she disposed of her baby, but nothing has turned up.
