AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Film Augusta and Convention and Visitors Bureau confirm a new movie is being filmed in the Garden City.

The Untitled Prison Project is filming in the area Wednesday.

"They came in April, mostly May and they've been here in town for a total of about 6 weeks when it's all said and done, their primary filming being in about a 3 week window," Jennifer Bowen, the vice president of destination development for Augusta CVB.

The movie is bringing more money to the town as production crews come to stay and some locals are hired to work on set.

"This particular production has hired local crew, so they have about 35 people from our area that they are working and utilizing, so that's great," Bowen said.

Locals like Russ Gladden, who was hired to be the locations manager.

"One of my most favorite things about being in locations is just there's always a need for service," Gladden said. "I love to be able to help solve a problem, and we keep the film rolling."

Gladden says films like this one give those living in Augusta some set experience.

"When an independent film comes to Augusta, the best part about it is local people get a chance to practice their skills, so when the larger films call on us, we have people that can do the job," Gladden said.

While many get experience, Augusta is getting exposure with the hopes of landing more movies down the road.
