(WRDW/WAGT) -- The ongoing fight against spam and robocallers has reached a new inflection point as several phone service providers say they're going to offer free services to combat them.

Verizon,

, said they'll be offering a free solution through an app.

Right now, the company offers a blocking app for $2.99 a month, but this new version will offer some services for free. Forbes says that app should be out by the end of the week.

"This milestone helps pave the way for AT&T and Comcast to begin offering authentication on calls between networks to customers later this year. Customers could soon start to see verified calls not only from callers using the same provider, but more importantly, from other participating providers," a statement on AT&T's website said.
