Unisys to add 400 new jobs as renovations near completion

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The IT Company supporting our military is getting ready to put hundreds more people to work. Unisys moved into its new home on Augusta's Riverwalk in February.
Step inside and it almost looks like facilities you'd see at Google or Facebook with wide open space and modern furniture.
"We're really excited about this, and I think it's really going to leave its mark on Augusta," said Dale Dye, Unisys' Site Executive and General Manager.
A promise that's reaching its potential. Unisys moved in with plans to bring more than 700 jobs to the area. They already employ 300 people, and when they finish renovating this space that number is only getting bigger.
"Unisys has invested almost 16 million dollars in our growth here in Augusta," explained Dye, "So that's all money that's gone back into the community to build us out."
Money you can see in Phase II of the renovation project on the second floor. They're growing to 74,000 square feet and more than doubling the number of employees. It also comes with unique features like desks as opposed to cubicles and quiet rooms with adjustable mood lighting.
"We wanted to give back because they helped us come here," Raquel Rivera, Unisys' Program Manager.
Which is why the designers and contractors bought everything, from the lighting to the furniture, locally.
"The city has done things for us, and we also wanted to be a part of the community," said Rivera.
A piece within a larger puzzle as Cyber Command continues to grow here.
"The protection of our clients data is something that's just going to continue to grow," explained Dye, "That's when Unisys is really going to step up and make its difference."
Making a difference in cyber security while leaving a larger footprint of its own.
