ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office and Orangeburg Public Safety are investigating after two bodies were found in a burnt car.

Deputies were told a car caught fire around 5:40 a.m. Tuesday off Ridgewood Drive. When they arrived to the scene and put the fire out, two bodies were found inside.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says it could take days to determine the identities of the people inside the car, or whether foul play was involved.

“We’ve been working with the state Highway Patrol, their MAIT team, and the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety with this incident,” the sheriff said. “We’re waiting on autopsy reports initially as well as sorting through this vehicle to be able to tell more about what happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff's office at (803) 534-3550 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
