AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A man arrested after an alleged altercation with two Aiken County deputies will have his first appearance in court in February.

A press release states the two deputies were called to help Williston's police chief, Rodney Pruitt, who was being assaulted by the suspect now identified as Goldie Bellinger.

Bellinger had reportedly received a car ride from a female victim from Williston to Aiken. On the way back to Williston, Bellinger became agitated with the female victim and "began to strike the victim and eventually held her at gunpoint" before forcing her to drive back to Aiken.

Police chief Pruitt received multiple reports of someone "pointing and presenting a firearm at multiple citizens" in Williston. Pruitt traveled west on Highway 78 in an attempt to locate the suspect vehicle.

On their way back to Aiken, a struggle for control of the car ensued and the car ended up on the side of the highway. As police chief Pruitt approached the car, Bellinger left his car, approached Pruitt and began to assault him.

The two unidentified deputies came to the aid of Pruitt and were injured while trying to apprehend the suspect. Both were treated to minor injuries at a local hospital and were released.

An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending on Bellinger. His first court appearance will be February 10.
