(WRDW/WAGT) -- Temperatures are warming up and gobblers are strutting, which means turkey season is almost here.

Turkey season officially opens in Georgia March 23rd. South Carolina’s season starts March 20th for private land hunters. Turkey season will then be open until May 5th in South Carolina and May 15th in Georgia. Both states are allowing youth to hunt turkey this weekend (March 16-17th).

Hunters 16 and younger in Georgia and hunters 17 and younger in South Carolina are allowed to hunt this weekend. Carolina youth hunters will only be allowed to hunt on private land.

Mobility impaired hunters in Georgia can also hunt this weekend, which is something Keith Grisco is thankful for after his accident. “Just out of nowhere a lady hit me head on. I went off the road, slammed into a ditch and spent the next six months in the hospital”, Grisco explained.

It took 21 surgeries to get Keith to where he is today and there are still more to come. Even though his life permanently changed, he keeps a positive outlook and finds peace in the woods.

Grisco says, “there is nothing else like it. You know I get goose pimples right now thinking about it. It's just when you call and that joker gobbles back at you, that right there, I don't even have to kill a bird, just hearing them that to me is the thrill”.
