MISSOURI CITY, TX (WRDW/WAGT) -- There's no greater love for many than the love between a father and a son. That love was on full display this weekend in Missouri City, Texas, when a young man's single tweet may have saved his father's newly opened donut shop.
Billy By's father opened a new shop, Billy's Donuts, in the Texas town over the weekend. But there was a problem: no one was showing up, according to Billy.
So Billy did what folks do these days: write about it on social media.
My dad is sad cause no one is coming to his new donut shop 😭 pic.twitter.com/y5aGB1Acrc— billy (@hibillyby) March 9, 2019
It didn't take much for this tweet to go viral. Since posting it over the weekend, the tweet has been retweeted over 250,000 times.
That's where the story -- and Billy's dad's business -- exploded. From there, the tweet gathered steam and retweets from celebrities such as James Woods and even the official Twitter account.
By the end of the weekend, Billy By tweeted that his viral tweet helped to bring a smile to his "sad" father's face.
Just wanted to update yall! We completely sold out of donuts and kolaches! You are all amazing. I can't thank everyone enough for coming out and supporting local businesses. This means so much to my family ❤️ pic.twitter.com/o3GQcKvVnG— billy (@hibillyby) March 10, 2019
Talk about a sweet turnaround.
