UPDATE | 1 fatality, 2 in hospital after crash on Highway 25

10:59 p.m.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Authorities say 25-year-old Coty Ryan Smith of Hephzibah passed away at the scene of the crash on Highway 25 at Campbell Circle Wednesday evening.

Reports indicate that Coty Smith was a passenger in a Mercury Sedan driven by 20-year-old Jordan Chase Youngblood of Hephzibah. The Sedan reportedly pulled onto Highway 25 when 64-year-old James Willie Houghbook of Sardis struck their vehicle.

Houghbook, the driver of the Ford truck, was traveling south and approaching Campbell Circle when the Sedan pulled into his path.

Houghbook was transported by EMA to AUMC in critical condition.

Youngblood was also transported by EMA to AUMC in serious condition.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The accident on Highway 25 has claimed the life of one person. Two more people have been transported to AUMC; one in critical condition and one in serious condition.

Reports indicated that a vehicle traveling south in the right lane on Highway 25 was approaching Campbell Circle when the driver of a second vehicle pulled into its path.

The second vehicle was said to be driving west on Allen Road and pulled into the median on Highway 25 and collided with the vehicle traveling south.

One person reportedly died at the scene.

Chief Deputy Blanchard says the southbound lanes are back open.

Further information is being withheld until family has been notified.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The southbound lanes of Highway 25 North at Taylor Brothers Express are closed.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office and rescue officials are at the scene of an accident.

One person is being transported by EMA to the trauma center at AUMC for serious injuries.

There are also reports of a fatality at the scene.

More details are expected to be released shortly.
