AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has announced their Crime Lab has received evidence related to overdoses in Central Georgia that are linked to counterfeit opioids.

Their preliminary lab results showed the new synthetic fentanyl is one of the two drugs in the mixture. This particular fentanyl had not been identified previously. They are working to determine the “full identity of the drug” which will take time but they say this is a priority.

This news comes as Georgia faces the influx of synthetic opioid related overdoses and deaths over the last month.
