AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A man charged with murder and shooting at a deputy has been denied bond.

Rex Stewart, Jr., is charged with the murder of Sean Bussard. He also shot at a Richmond County deputy after a traffic stop.

In court, the prosecution stated that Stewart confessed to shooting "around" the officer. They say after further questioning he also admitted to shooting Sean Bussard on Karlene Road.

Cyndi Bowen, who investigators say was with Stewart when he fired at the deputy, was also in court. She was scheduled for a bond hearing but could not have one because a previous violation of probation had not been resolved.

The prosecution said Bowen told investigators Stewart told her to lean back (and) that he was going to shoot and the deputy and he said if she didn't he would kill her.

The prosecution also said after talking to witnesses they found out Bowen and Stewart went to a hotel in Aiken the night they shot at a deputy. Investigators later found them in an abandoned trailer near Hephzibah.

Stewart's attorney said back in 2012 Stewart had a traumatic brain injury while riding a motorcycle, he asked for bond but was denied.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT)-- Cyndi Faye Bowen Fowler and Rex Stewart Jr. are the two accused of shooting at a deputy on Wednesday morning. Now Rex Stewart Jr is charged with murder.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office says after they caught Rex Stewart on Wednesday, they were able to connect him to the murder on Karleen Road.

The man he's accused of killing, Sean Bussard, was letting Rex live with him.

News 12 spoke with Bussard's fiance, Maryann DaVitte who says she and Sean lived on Karleen Road; they were letting Rex and stay with them when Sean was killed.

Maryann pictured a wedding and a long life with her fiance Sean, she said, "I just thought we'd elope one day, like he'd wake up one morning and be like we're gonna go get married, ya know."

But that was all taken away when deputies found Sean dead in his front yard.

"I don't see my life without him, he was such a big part of my life, he was my life," said Maryann.

On Monday Maryann laid Sean to rest, now a few days later she's learned it's Rex who deputies charged with Sean's murder.

"I can't believe that, I mean, they lived with us."

It's not something Maryann wants to accept, she said, "Sean and Rex shared some of the same struggles in life that Rex is going through now, and Rex used to say that Sean was the only one who understood him...
for Rex to be the one accused of doing this, I can't believe it, I don't want to believe it."

But she says she won't let losing Sean keep her from forgiving Rex.
News 12's Alexa Lightle asked, "If he is the one who does do the time for Sean's death do you think you'll be able to forgive him?"

Maryann said, "I've already forgiven him because in order for Rex to do something like that I really believe he wasn't right in his mind and Sean would want me to do that."

As Maryann tries to understand how this could've happened, she holds onto her memories of Sean and their life together.

"He was a good man, he was a loving man, and a caring man," she said.

She also said Rex and the other suspect from the shooting involving a deputy, Cyndi Bowen were at Sean's funeral.

Cyndi is just charged with Aggravated Assault upon a Law Enforcement Officer and has not been charged with Sean's murder.

Rex Stewart faces a judge for that murder charge Friday morning.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Two people wanted in connection to an assault on a Richmond County deputy were captured. Luckily the deputy was not hit in the shooting. The deputy was taken to the hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

Cyndi Bowen and Rex Stewart were taken in outside of Hephzibah, off of Old Waynesboro Road. The car deputies were looking for was found in Augusta off Old Savannah Road.

Deputies say Stewart and Bowen were driving last night when they were pulled over. They found both this afternoon after searching for them for hours.

The search for Bowen and Stewart started on the corner of Peach Orchard Road around midnight.

Dispatch recording: "Dispatch where is he? Peach Orchard Road at Settlement Road. They went down settlement road into the residential area."

A Richmond County Deputy pulled a white Infiniti over for a traffic stop when investigators say Stewart, the passenger, shot at the deputy then they drove away. The deputy fired back.

Dispatch recording: "I fired my pistol into the car, knocking out the rear window."

Hours later, deputies were still looking for the two suspects when they spotted them around noon today.

Dispatch recording: "They could be running toward Hephzibah-Mcbean Road"

Minutes later, deputies caught Bowen.

Dispatch recording: "In custody? In custody."

Shortly after, Stewart was caught.

Dispatch recording: "Did I hear you say both are in custody? 10-4 thank you."

The last piece was the car. Bowen told deputies where it was and they found it parked on some property along Delmont Street. It was hidden under a tarp with bullet holes and no rear window.

Dispatch recording: "It's actually parked underneath the shed with a white trailer in front of it."

After being on the run for 12 hours, Bowen and Stewart are behind bars and facing serious charges.

There was an arrest warrant for Bowen for violating her probation back in November. Both suspects have extensive criminal records and Stewart has ties to a group called the Aryan Brotherhood.

Both have been charged with Aggravated Assault upon a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Firearm during Commission of a Crime and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
