AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is looking into a case where a teen girl said she was the subject of a blackmail campaign.
The girl's mother, Katrina Smalley, says it all started on picture day at Silver Bluff High School.
"My daughter wore a dress, and Saturday afternoon we got some pictures in her inbox," Smalley said.
They were inappropriate pictures, showing up her daughter's dress. Following those pictures were messages on Instagram threatening to post the upskirt video if the girl blocked them or didn't respond.
This Instagram account was messaging Smalley's daughter with threats.
"She says she feels violated, you know? She's hurt," Smalley said. "She doesn't understand why it was happening."
The suspect also claimed to be in the girl's 6th period class. The threats continued, too.
"They said for her to send pictures of her nude or they would post them all over social media," Smalley said.
The account was deleted shortly after Smalley called the sheriff's office to file an incident report.
"It's very disturbing, and I encourage any mother that is at Silver Bluff High School to check with their daughters because my daughter was not the only one."
Smalley said another student came forward to tell them it happened to them, too.
Smalley says something similar happened to her when she was younger and to see her daughter struggling as she did is tearing her apart.
"Me, I was violated like she was and looking at my daughter cry it did bother me because she's young, and she doesn't know who it is in her classroom that sent the pictures out and who done took the pictures without her knowledge," Smalley said.
The case remains under investigation. In the meantime, if you know anything about this case, please contact the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.
