AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Investigators have arrested a woman on DUI charges after an accident on Whaley Pond Road on Tuesday.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the call came in around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, in response to an accident.
The incident report states that when investigators arrived, they found a car flipped in a ditch, and the driver and two small children standing outside.
According to the report, the driver, Ivy Barron, told a trooper she was looking at her phone, looked up and realized she was running off the road.
The trooper smelled alcohol and asked Barron how much she had to drink. The incident report states Barron told the trooper that she had three drinks earlier in the evening. The trooper gave Barron multiple field sobriety tests, in which Barron failed them all.
A homeowner nearby told investigators that Barron struck multiple mailboxes along the road.
Someone was called to pick up the children and Barron was arrested on DUI charges. Around 4 a.m., Barron was given a breathalyzer test and blew a blood alcohol level of .12%, which is still higher than the legal limit of .08%.
Both of the small children in the vehicle were uninjured. Investigators have not identified the children or what their relationship to Barron is.
