UPDATE: Man dies after being hit on Peach Orchard

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT)-- One man is dead after being hit on Peach Orchard Road.

The coroner identified the victim as 69-year-old Willie Mims of Virginia Ave. Investigators say he was crossing the 2500 block of Peach Orchard when a SUV coming northbound hit him. Richmond county deputies say the call came in at 6:41 p.m.

He was transported to AUMC where he later died from blunt force trauma just after 7 o'clock Saturday evening.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office and Coroner's Office are continuing their investigation.


AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT)-- A SUV hits and injures a man crossing Peach Orchard, deputies say the driver could not stop in time.

Richmond County investigators on scene tell News 12, the victim ran across Peach Orchard Road from the Super Express Gas Station. A dark colored SUV was going north down the road but could not stop in time, ultimately hitting the man.

The sheriff's office says the victim was taken to the hospital with injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.

RCSO is investigating.
