UPDATE | Suspect arrested after Sunday evening murder on Windsor Spring Road

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Deputies say they are continuing to investigate a murder at the Richmond Villa Apartments Sunday evening.

Deputies say they were called out to 3551 Windsor Spring Road for shots fired with one subject down. When they arrived on scene they found 27-year-old Frank Thompson Jr., on the ground with a gunshot wound to the torso.

They say Thompson was transported to Augusta University Medical Center and later succumbed to his injuries.

According to deputies, during the course of the investigation investigators made contact with 30-year-old Desmond Baskett.

Deputies say Basket is currently being housed at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center for the following charges: sale of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of Xanax, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Investigators say additional charges may be forthcoming for Baskett.

9:46 p.m.

The Richmond County Coroner said Frank Oliver Thompson Jr., 27, died in the shooting on Windsor Spring Road.

Coroner Mark Bowen said Thompson lived on the 3500 Block of Windsor Spring.

Thompson was pronounced dead at 7:09 Sunday evening. He was shot at least one time.

The victim's body will go to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office and the Coroner's Office are investigating.

9:15 p.m.

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- One person is dead after a shooting on Windsor Spring Road.

Richmond County dispatch tells us it was called in at 6:17 Sunday evening. It happened on the 3500 Block of Windsor Spring Road in the Richmond Villas Apartments.

Deputies on the scene found one male victim with a gun shot wound. He was taken to Augusta University Medical Center where he later died. The coroner's office says they are still notifying family.

Richmond County deputies say there is no suspect information and there is no one in custody at this time.
