AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Richmond County Coroner and deputies say one person is dead following a stabbing on Wheeler Road Thursday morning.

Richmond County deputies were called to the scene early Thursday morning around 12:20. They say when they arrived on scene they found 54-year-old Darryl Chestnut with multiple stab wounds. He was transported to Augusta University Medical Center.

Deputies and the coroner say Chestnut died from his injuries at the hospital.

According to deputies, they learned that 25-year-old Sade Hogan was at the residence drinking with Chestnut and another female. According to the witness, Hogan became upset and began arguing with Chestnut.

Law enforcement say as Chestnut was trying to calm her down, Hogan stabbed him. It is unclear at the time about the relationship between the two, besides they knew one another, deputies say.

Hogan is currently being housed at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center for the charges of murder and possession of a knife during the commission of crime.

The coroner says Chestnut has been transported to the GBI Lab for an autopsy.
