UPDATE | Coroner identifies victim in Hopie Road house fire

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The victim in a deadly house fire on Hopie Road last month has been identified.

Richmond County Coroner's Office said the victim, 68-year-old Arnold Clifford Johnson, Sr., was found by the fire department while they were fighting the fire.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:30 a.m. on September 7. He had to be identified through fingerprints.

The fire department is ruling the cause of the fire as accidental.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Officials with Augusta Fire Rescue say they found the victim of a fatal Thursday morning fire in the bathroom of a residence.

There is no cause yet for the fire, according to investigators.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Richmond County Coroner's Office says firefighters found one person dead inside a home during a house fire on Hopie Road.

They say one subject was found by firefighters during the fire fight in the residence on the 1900 block of Hopie Road in Augusta.

Coroner Mark Bowen says the person was pronounced dead at 2:30 Thursday morning. Crews were originally called out to the home around 12:30 am.

The coroner says the body is being sent to the GBI lab for autopsy and positive identification.
