AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A man charged in connection to a homicide on Kratha Drive in December 2017 has been indicted.

According to court records, Jaye Alexander Williams has been indicted on murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime charges in connection to the crime.

Law enforcement say Williams shot and killed Robert Lee Brown Jr. back in December after a domestic altercation involving a woman they both know.

7:30 a.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Deputies say they have arrested and charged a man in the Tuesday morning homicide of Robert Lee Brown Jr. on Kratha Drive.

They say 26-year-old Jaye Alexander Williams is being charged with one count of murder and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Deputies say they were called out a home on the 1900 block of Kratha Drive at 1:07 Tuesday morning for a shooting. They say when they arrived on scene they found 24-year-old Robert Brown Jr. lying in the rear side yard of the home, with at least one apparent gunshot wound.

Brown Jr. was transported to Augusta University Medical Center for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries. Brown Jr. was pronounced dead at 1:47 am, according to deputies.

The investigation revealed Brown Jr. was shot by Williams after a domestic altercation involving a woman they both know.

Williams is being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.


5:45 a.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Richmond County coroner says one man is dead after a shooting at a home on Kratha Drive early Tuesday morning.

The coroner says 24-year old Robert Lee Brown Jr. was shot at least one time and was transported to Augusta Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 1:43 am.

An autopsy will be done by the GBI.

The coroner’s office and the sheriff’s office are investigating the homicide.
