MCDUFFIE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A Warren County man is dead following an overnight crash in McDuffie County near Thomson.
Investigators say troopers responded to a single-vehicle accident on Augusta Highway at Moose Club Road around 2:54 a.m. Saturday morning. McDuffie County EMS, the McDuffie County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol officials discovered a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado in a ditch next to the roadway.
Officials later identified the victim as 22-year-old Austin Luke Ashley of Warrenton, Georgia. An incident report shows "Ashley lost control of the truck, crossed into the ditch striking a fence and was ejected from the vehicle resulting in his death."
Investigators also suspect alcohol and/or drug impairment was a contributing factor. McDuffie County Coroner Foster Wylie confirms the family has been notified.
Officials say Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.
