(CNN) -- You've heard that postal service workers will do their job regardless of rain or snow or heat. Well apparently, that does not include alligators.
A neighborhood in Winter Garden, Florida, has not received mail in two days, because, according to neighbors and the U.S. Postal Service, an alligator is living in a retention pond close to where the mail boxes are.
It appears one mail carrier fears the animal.
In a statement, the USPS says it has guidelines in place to address threatening animals, adding it expects regular mail delivery to resume Friday.
Neighbors say it's unclear what will happen to the gator, who has been a pond regular for years.
