UPDATE | Investigators looking into early morning crash in Waynesboro

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Georgia State Patrol is investigating a crash that happened early Tuesday morning in Waynesboro.

According to investigators, the accident happened around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 56 and Bates Road.

Investigators said a Dodge Neon traveling south on Highway 56 was stopped in traffic and the driver was attempting to turn left onto Bates Road. A Chevrolet truck stopped behind the car.

Investigators said a Cadillac Escalade was approaching the truck from the rear and did not stop or slow down. The SUV struck the truck which then caused the truck to strike the car.

EMS transported the drivers to Augusta University Medical Center for treatment with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Cadillac had to be extricated from the SUV.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- GDOT said all lanes have reopened after a multi-car accident with injuries on Highway 56 in Waynesboro.

Our reporter on the scene said everyone is already at the hospital, and thankfully there were no deaths in the accident.

According to Burke County Sheriff's Office, three vehicles were involved and it is currently unknown what caused the crash.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Highway 56 is closed in both directions after a multi-car accident near Bates Road.

According to Burke County Sheriff's Office, three vehicles were involved and it is currently unknown what caused the crash.

Investigators say several people involved in the crash have been transported to three area hospitals.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A multi-car accident with injuries has happened at the intersection of Bates Road and Highway 56 in Waynesboro.

Currently, there are no roads closed in the area but drivers are reporting Highway 56 is blocked in both directions while crews work to clear the scene.

According to the Burke County dispatch, the call came in around 5:52 a.m. and involved approximately two or three cars.

EMS is on scene, and Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
