AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Two Augusta area schools were placed on a public safety alert after officials said a man was shot nearby.

According to officials, that shooting happened in the area of Essie McIntyre Boulevard and Hester Street.

Dispatch says a man was shot in the buttocks by three black males -- one with dreadlocks -- who fled the scene in a dark silver Camry.

As a result of the shooting, officials say, Josey High School and Murphy Middle School were placed on that alert. Neither school was locked down as a result.
