SWAINSBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A 32-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man stand accused in a horrific case of child abuse in Swainsboro.
According to the Swainsboro Police Department, Brandy Lee and Branden Woods were arrested Thursday.
Lee, the mother of the 3-month-old child, allegedly left the child in Woods' care, investigators said.
While the child was in Woods' care, investigators said, he "physically and sexually abused the child."
A short time later, Woods called EMS after the baby girl was unresponsive, officers said. The child was then taken to Emanuel Medical Center and resuscitated while police were called because she had injuries consistent with aggravated battery.
At last check, the child was listed in stable but critical condition.
Woods has been charged with aggravated battery, first-degree cruelty to children, aggravated child molestation, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug-related objects.
Lee, on the other hand, is charged with second-degree cruelty to children.
The case remains under investigation.
