UPDATE | Victim identified one injured in accident at River Road and Highway 80 in Burke County

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The accident that took the life of Franz Shultz was said to have started when a driver crossed the roadway to pass a UPS truck.

Deputies say that driver hit Shultz's card head on.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Authorities say 48-year-old Franz Schultz of Evan, Georgia died in the crash at River Road and Highway 80.

No further information was released at this time.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- One person is dead and one person has been transported to the hospital after a serious crash on River Road at Highway 80.

According to Burke County dispatch, the call came in at 2:55 p.m. The surviving victim was transported to Augusta University Medical Center and the extent of injuries is not clear at this time.

The road is still closed in the area, and investigators are not sure when it will reopen. This is a developing story.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- At this time the Burke County Sheriff's Office and the Burke County Fire Rescue are working a crash with serious injuries on River Road at Highway 80.

Authorities say River Road at Highway 80 is closed and will remain closed for some time.

Georgia State Patrol is currently en route.
