AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Friday the football team was just out over here conditioning without their head coach. Many questions remain as to what's going to happen for the team, but even bigger questions as for this investigation.

Behind an open gate at Josey High, you'll find about 20 players conditioning, but you won't find their head coach.

“I was shocked. I was shocked.”

Just weeks away from the start of football season, the team has plans to go far while the district attorney's office is going further.

“I never thought that he would resign because he's such a good teacher..kids loved him,” said Janae Blacksheer, JHS student/cheerleader.

The board says coach Raleigh Roundtree turned himself in.

“I didn't think that he would do anything like that..not saying that's true. For somebody to even think of him like that, it's surprising,” Janae admits.

According to a statement from Richmond County schools, on July 2 Roundtree self-reported an “inappropriate incident” with someone who used to go to Josey.

He resigned on Wednesday, about two weeks after the board's investigation was turned over to the DA.

“They're very outgoing, hardworking...they are good.” That's how Janae describes the team she cheers for and the man who was also her teacher.

Investigators have not confirmed if there was an ongoing relationship or if it was even one if his own students.

The nature of the 'inappropriate incident' is still unclear, but student-athletes on this field they say it's a matter of waiting for his name to be cleared.
