UPDATE | Mother indicted on homicide charges in 9-year-old son's death

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A mother accused in the death of her 9-year-old son after a DUI crash last year has been indicted on homicide charges.

Nyarko Turner is facing two felony counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree and one misdemeanor count of endangering a child by driving under the influence.

According to the Richmond County's Sheriff's Office, Turner was traveling on Pepperidge Drive on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, when she went onto incoming traffic and hit another car. Her son, Brandon Burke, was in the backseat and not wearing his seatbelt, according to the Coroner's Office.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A mother accused in the death of her 9-year-old son after a DUI crash earlier this month has been granted bond.

A judge granted Nyarko Turner $15,000 bond Friday morning. As of 1:45 p.m. Friday, Turner remained in custody.

According to the Richmond County's Sheriff's Office, Nyarko Turner was traveling on Pepperidge Drive on Sunday, Feb. 5, when she went onto incoming traffic and hit another car.

Her son, Brandon Burke, was in the backseat and not wearing his seatbelt, according to the Coroner's Office. Burke suffered blunt force trauma and died on Tuesday morning at 7:22 a.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A mother facing multiple charges, including DUI, after a crash killed her 9-year-old son has been arrested.

Nyarko Turner has been booked into the Richmond County Jail and is facing multiple charges including vehicular homicide and DUI.

According to the Richmond County Coroner's Office, 9-year-old Brandon Burke was in the backseat and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The crash happened on Feb. 5 at 2:45 a.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A mother has been hospitalized and arrested on multiple charges including DUI after a crash over the weekend killed her 9-year-old son.

According to the Richmond County's Sheriff's Office, Nyarko Turner was traveling on Pepperidge Drive on Sunday, Feb. 5, when she went onto incoming traffic and hit another car.

Her son, Brandon Burke, was in the backseat and not wearing his seat belt, according to the coroner's office. Burke suffered blunt force trauma and died on Tuesday morning at 7:22 a.m.

An incident report states Turner is still hospitalized but has been accused on multiple charges, including DUI and homicide by vehicle in the first degree.

She will be transferred to the jail upon her release from the hospital, according to the sheriff's office.

10:45 a.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A 9-year-old boy has died after a crash that happened over the weekend on Pepperidge Drive.

According to the Richmond County Coroner's Office, 9 year-old Brandon Burke was in the backseat and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The crash happened on Feb. 5, 2017 at 2:45 a.m.

Burke was taken to the hospital and died Tuesday morning at 7:22 a.m. The coroner's office said he died from blunt force trauma and an autopsy will not be performed.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office has launched an investigation into the accident and will release more information when it becomes available.
