COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A coroner says an inmate found dead in his cell at a South Carolina prison was strangled with a rope or cord.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said 52-year-old Isaac Starke's body was found at the Broad River Correctional Institution in Columbia on Sunday.

Watts said in a statement Starke died from ligature strangulation, which is choking on the neck by a rope or cord.

Watts' statement gave no other details about the death.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating and no charges have been filed.

Starke had seven years remaining in his sentence for charges including criminal sexual conduct with a minor in Aiken County.
