AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- This year isn't the first time Kevin Kisner's played the Masters but it is the first he's done this well.

Last year he tied for 28th and as his family tells News 12, seeing him do this well close to home is even more meaningful.

When you hear the word Kis, you know immediately who the gallery is cheering for.

If you don't know by now, they're talking about Kevin Kisner.

"Really down to earth guy. He's the kind of guy that you'd want to play golf with yourself," said Evan Dill, a Kisner fan.

He's the kind of guy that tweets this hours before teeing off

hoping for better weather just like the rest of us.

"Just kind of your common man getting it done with the big boys,” said Dill.

No matter if you call him Kis, the people's golfer, or just the guy next door, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't like him.

"He's fun to watch, a grinder, not too flashy, he just gets it done," said Dill.

No one loves watching him more than his dad Steve.

"What's really fun is when we come here we know so many people and so many of the local people are here cheering for him and encourage him," said Steve.

A hometown crowd for Kevin, he grew up just across the river in Aiken. He and his dad have been coming to the Masters since he was just 8.

But to see him play here year after year and at this level is a whole different ball game.

"It’s really impressive for him to shoot 3 under on this golf course. We all know its wet and it’s playing long and that doesn't play into Kevin's game. He's such a grinder and such a competitor," said Steve.
