AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Augusta GreenJackets reveal their newest and most improved team member.
"He's been obviously offseason training since November. We've been working with Evans fitness center to bring him back bolder. We added a little plaid."
Auggie, the team's mascot, stole the show with his new look, Masters inspired plaid.
There are new uniforms too. Three of them in fact.
"Of course the home jersey features the "Jackets" on the front. We shortened it up to make it a little more-trendy and reflect the theme of this season."
In addition to the home jerseys, the team revealed its away uniforms, and special edition alternates to be worn on Sundays.
"The San Francisco Giants uniform will be our alternate uniform, and we will have another special uniform we're working on designing for our Monday’s and Military Monday’s theme."
GreenJackets VP Tom Denlinger says this reveal has the team hoping opening day is a home run.
"We already have four times the amount of season ticket holders we had at Lake Olmstead, so we're excited."
Four times the amount and still selling. The GreenJackets play their first game on April 12th two days after Georgia-Clemson. They're expecting sellout crowds of more than 5,500.
"I think people from Aiken would come over here."
Nancy Pitts and her husband are from Aiken, and they could not be more excited.
"It would draw us because we don't go to Lake Olmstead anymore because of the drive. And this is a lot quicker," said Nancy.
And that new stadium is the only new park being built in minor league baseball this year, so lots of eyes on opening day. They'll be putting grass in the stadium in the next couple of weeks.
So it's a mix of everything new that's really energizing this team and its fan base right now.
