WILKES COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Deputy Joshua Ryer Jr. will be laid to rest Sunday, February 3rd, at 3:00 p.m.

The services will begin at the Glascock County High School gym.

A visitation will be held Saturday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m, in the gym.

WILKES COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- News 12 NBC 26 is learning more details about an accident involving a 19-year-old Glascock County deputy.

According to Georgia State Patrol, 19-year-old Joshua Ryer Jr., was driving westbound on Georgia Highway 47. Another vehicle was driving northbound on Georgia Highway 47.

GSP said Ryer failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the northbound lane of Georgia Highway 47. The front of the other vehicle hit the driver's side of Ryer's vehicle.

Ryer's vehicle rotated and traveled more than 60 feet before coming to a stop. The other vehicle also traveled more than 60 feet and came to a stop.

The accident happened around 1:40 P.M. on Tuesday.

Deputy Ryer, LJ, began his law enforcement career with the Glascock County Sheriff’s Office on September 10, 2018. He had ambitions of becoming a Federal Law Enforcement Officer.

The Glascock County Sheriff's office said Deputy Ryer was going to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Washington. Deputy Ryer had not yet picked up the individual when the accident occurred.

The Sheriff's Office released this statement today: "He was a great young man and becoming a great officer. He was only with our office a short period of time but he quickly became one of our family members. He will truly be missed but absolutely never will be forgotten."

The crash is still under investigation.

GLASCOCK COUNTY, Ga. -- (WRDW/WAGT) The Glascock County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of their youngest deputies, Joshua Ryer Jr, only 19 years old.

Sheriff Jeremy Kelley says he was involved in a motor vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon around 1:30 in Washington, GA. He was on duty at the time.

Ryer is from Gibson, GA. The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is investigating.

The Glascock County Sheriff's Office posted this on their Facebook page:

"Please be in prayer for the Sheriff’s Office as we mourn the loss of one of our beloved Sheriff Deputies. For the rest of the week the office will be closed, please call 911 for all Emergencies and Dispatch at 706-595-2145 for any non emergencies."
