AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Fourteen months ago, it was just an idea. Now, the Georgia Cyber Center is much more than concrete.
Adam Cobb with New South Construction is the project manager.
“We’ve hit our marks so far. And getting these walls up tells these workers, this is a building and we need to start working towards the finish line.”
Inside, you can see walls going up; defining the classroom, offices, and social spaces. You'll even see the first coats of paint.
"What I call a very industrial look, contemporary industrial look."
Next door might look like a plot of dirt right now, but there's a lot going on underground.
“So if you look out and think things are moving slow on building two, there’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes.”
They built the foundation and installed earthquake drains to keep the ground solid through pretty much anything.
"So here we are in mid-to-late February, we will be standing steel for building two in mid-to-late April."
About two months after that, the doors on the first building will open for business.
"I remember being shocked at the speed then, as I am now. But it’s been a great project and a project I'm glad we get to be a part of.”
Just to give you an example of how set in stone the July 10 opening date is, there are actually already plans for a meeting in the building on July 11, so they will be done. Building two will be open by December, it might be December 31 but it will be open for the New Year.
