AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- GDOT officials will be holding a stakeholder meeting Saturday Feb. 10 at Williams Memorial CME Church about the widening of 15th Street (SR 4).

At the meeting, project status, schedules and right-of-way acquisition will be discussed.

Officials say, the project will widen 15th Street (SR 4) from the intersection of MLK Jr. Boulevard to Government Road from two lanes to four, 11-foot wide lanes (two lanes in each direction) separated by a raised median with left turn lanes at median openings and will resurface MLK from Milledgeville Road to 15th Street.

According to GDOT, five-foot wide sidewalks will be installed along the roadway, in addition to pedestrian crosswalks at signalized intersections. The total project length is 1.59 miles.

The $21.4 million project, expected to improve connectivity between south Augusta and the medical complex and downtown Augusta while providing congestion relief, is fully funded by proceeds from the Transportation Investment Act, according to release from officials.
