AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The community and family said their goodbyes to Ja'Ziah Pollard, the 2-year-old killed when her mother's boyfriend allegedly shot into her home.
Gunter is facing five charges, including murder, while the family of Ja'Ziah is facing heartbreak. They gathered at Kinsey and Walton Funeral Home with heavy heads and eyes filled with tears. The family is forever broken.
"Ja'Ziah was just our precious angel. It's definitely a loss for the family. We just regret that this had to happen tragically, the way that it did. It's just the fact that we won't get to see her grow up and become a young lady, have children of her own, and possibly a beautiful marriage." Bobbie Smith, Pollard's great-aunt, said on the family's behalf.
Her mother described her as a happy chil, eager to take on life.
Pollard's life has now been robbed from her.
"I just keep replaying back over and over her laying on the floor," Pollard's mother, Jackie Ingram said as she recalled the night the child was shot to death.
The image even more vivid as little Pollard's casket closed. Ingram now knows nothing will bring her baby back.
"I try to stay strong as I can but it's really, really hard," Ingram said.
Now, the family says they can only hope that justice is served. Bobbie Smith says she thinks justice can only be served one way.
"I don't believe in death for anyone," Smith said. "So, yes, time served."
Marquie Gunter is still behind bars. A judge did not approve his bond Monday. Instead, his request was transferred to Superior Court. A date for that bond hearing has not been set.
