AUGUSTA, Ga (WRDW/WAGT) -- Broad Street: it's the hub for food, drinks and entertainment in Augusta.

"I love going out," 21-year-old Tyler Smith said.

Tyler moved to Augusta for work. But at 21, he says there's not much to do around here.

"Typical night out on the town?" Tyler Smith said. "Usually grabbing a meal first with everyone, we'll get a couple drinks and then we'll head out."

Broad Street is changing and it's all to attract younger people. As the Hyatt House comes downtown, they want to change with it.

"This is a huge product," Jamie Corley, the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Hyatt House in downtown Augusta said. "Millions and millions of dollars have gone into the construction of it."

For more than two years, they've been planning the hotel. But it's different than the other Hyatt properties and high rises.

"It is geared towards extended stay," Corley said. "We have a lot of full kitchens. We have 100 guest rooms of all and 75% of them have full kitchens and a full living room to them."

It's a place for people traveling here for work.

"Cyber is a big one and Georgia Power. We look forward to hosting a lot of Augusta University events," Corley said. "There's a lot of huge businesses here like Textron."

But it's not just a place for people to sleep, but a place to entertain.

"We have an outside patio area that opens onto broad street," Corley said. "It's a little different for a Hyatt product, but it was something that our ownership group added just to give us that downtown Broad Street feeling."

Because after all, what's Broad Street without food, drinks and a little fun?

"The rooftop bar as well as the patio bar are open to the public on a daily basis," Corley said. "We have hours starting at 4:00 p.m. every day. The rooftop space is available for private rental, but it is also a gorgeous evening space for a cocktail and a quick bite."

They're hoping for a soft opening just in time for golf week and their grand opening is planned for this May.
