10 pounds of marijuana seized after traffic stop in Burke County

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- According to officials from the Burke County Sheriff's office, nearly 10 pounds of marijuana has been seized after a traffic stop on Saturday night.

Deputies say just before 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Deputy Eric McCants pulled a Honda Civic over on Highway 25 near Coleman Road for an expired tag. While talking to the driver and passenger, Benjamin Wilson and Hayden Parker, both of North Augusta, South Carolina, Deputy McCants said he believed something criminal to be taking place.

He called in the assistance of Jenkins County Deputy Matthew Cowdrey and his K9 unit Ozzy, who discovered 9.95 pounds of marijuana in trunk of the car.

Wilson and Parker were booked in to the Burke County Detention Center and have been charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana. The marijuana and $991.00 were seized from the vehicle.
